Once again we're doing a local run of events this year. Hope to see some of you there!

San Diego Comic Con 2015 has come to an end and I can't wait for next year. This year I did my usual taking it easy during the convention and spent most of it trying to network, advertise myself as an artist, and see as much of the convention as I can.

As usual, I had some of my artwork up in the Art Show. This year was 14 pieces of art on 2 panels (prints and originals). Many of the art pieces sold and I had to return several times to add more business cards to the holder. So it was a very good SDCC artshow. :D

I'm applying this time for a Small Press and Artist Alley booth for 2016. Wish me luck!

Upcoming Comic Convention:
We might try to do a couple more out of state conventions, but it all depends on what we can afford. We would love to go to Emerald City Comic Con again, but have to find money for hotel and travel for 2 people. Phoenix Comic Con is a possibility for 2016, but have to see if we have the budget for that. Will keep you informed!

So at long last I’ve put together a Patreon profile! Patreon is a service that allows you to pledge donations to your favorite starving artists, securely and easily. With your help I will be able to create more of the artwork you love. Choosing a reward is optional and you can donate any amount, plus even set up ongoing support.

There aren’t very many Milestone Goals right now, but I’ll be adding some in the future if I get enough interested patrons. Possible rewards include:

  • Access to a Patreon-only feed where you can get behind the scenes looks at what I’m working on.
  • Random black & white sketch sent to your email
  • Random colored sketch sent to your email
  • Email you a sketch of a Zombie Ranch character of your choice.
  • Simple colored 9×12 digital drawing of any one character of your choice.
  • Simple colored 9×12 digital drawing of any two characters of your choice or one character with a background.

So be sure to check it out and donate if you want to help support my art and help me get things like a stool for my art desk, or even just help me feed myself the occasional helping of fresh fruit. Promise I won’t eat it while I’m drawing.

San Diego Comic Con Art Show

July 8-12 I'll be at San Diego Comic Con. I won't have a booth this year, but my art will once again be up in their Art Show located in the Sails Pavilion upstairs at the Convention Center.

For more info, go to www.comic-con.org/cci/art-show

Follow my website's blog to see what artwork I'll have up at the Art Show: www.artofdawn.com

The Kickstarter to make our web comic Zombie Ranch into a volume collection went live on April 10th!

There are many rewards to choose from or you can donate and choose to receive nothing if you are simply a fan of Zombie Ranch who has been buying all our Zombie Ranch stuff when visiting our booth at comic conventions. Though for $200 you will get free stuff and be able to get a commission drawn by me. But if you just want something drawn by Dawn, you can get the $150 reward and I will send you a Dawn Wolf original artwork drawn on 9x12 inch Bristol Board or a digital print (that will never be printed again) with a bunch of Zombie Ranch goodies as well.
Though be warned, I sometimes draw odd things. Like the artwork shown below that I have called Duckiecorn and drew a few nights ago.
uniduck_small

There is also a $250 reward where you get a commission from me and a zombie horse plushie that I have hand made.

zombiehorse
Just to warn you, I only have a limit of 15 on the $150 goal, 3 for the $200, and 2 for the $250.

Though these reward tiers are only for those who have been wanting to purchase original artwork from me. Any small amount will help in reaching our goal, really.

Telling others that might be interested in Zombie Ranch our Kickstarter is also helpful. Use this link to let others know about it: www.kickstarter.com/projects/l…

2015 Conventions I'll be at:
Keep up to date on events I will be at on my website: www.artofdawn.com/events/

We're doing less conventions in 2015 and all of them local (list of conventions below). I'm looking into ways to help make my setup easier. I love the cube cage setup, but it does take a lot of work, I almost wish there was something I could fold and put away like a popup tent. So currently my engineer type brain is trying to devise a way to accomplish this.

I'm also thinking of making a booklet of the sticky note doodles I was doing most of last year and sell it at the table. Otherwise we'll be working this year on trying to create a Zombie Ranch collection - a book that has all 7 issues of the comic. Will let you know how you can get updates or notifications on this soon. A kickstarter will probably be set up sometime in March or early April.

2014 was a rough year and I sadly didn't get to do all the things I was aiming to do. My aunt got sick during the spring, at first we all thought it was Pneumonia. Summer came around and we learned it was cancer and she had weeks or days to live. She passed early September and grief hit me hard. Plans to complete a cartoon or continue the podcast sort of dwindled.
Suzie Rose by artofdawn

But that doesn't mean that I will give up in 2015. I still need some time to put myself together, but I hope to continue working on some of the art projects I started in 2014. I might start back up on the podcast, though not many of my friends seem interested in continuing the project, so it might become a solo act. Or I might not do the podcast and turn it into a live streaming of me drawing stuff.

This year I do plan on a couple of things:
  • Setting up a mailing list and doing monthly/bi-monthly emails
  • Set up a Patreon account
  • Work on Saturnine some more
  • Maybe make a video game with the game making class I'm taking in the spring.

If you want up to date notifications from me, follow the blog on my website: www.artofdawn.com/blog/categor…

I always set plans for every year, but usually fail to follow them through due to time restraints. So I'm going to do projects that aren't as complicated as drawing 2 comics books at once. Current goals I have are to try doing a small animation (probably will turn out terrible) and put together a podcast with friends.

I've always wanted to try animation. My brother wanted to work as an animator when he was a kid and I remember going over animation books with him at the library or book stores. I don't think I will ever make anything groundbreaking, but it's something I would regret never trying to do.
I have tried my hand at animation, but I want to try doing frame by frame and using Flash.
The Bits of Nothing podcast is something I feel will really be beneficial. Whenever we (drfeh and I) get interviewed about our comic Zombie Ranch, I always suddenly get stage fright and can't seem to be able to find my voice. I hope this will help me say more than Yes, no or I Draw!
Other goals this year include getting out the 7th volume of Zombie Ranch (which we hope to have out in Spring 2014). After that, we plan then to put together a kickstarter to make a volume edition of Zombie Ranch that will consist of the first arch (Issues 1-7). So keep an eye out for that this year if you're interested in supporting it and want a Zombie Ranch volume comic book.

Inktober Challenge

Today I was informed of Inktober and think I'm going to give it a shot.

What is Inktober? It's basically a challenge where you create 31 ink drawings (a drawing for each day) for the month of October.

INKtober rules from mrjakeparker.com/2013/09/30/in…:

  1. Make a drawing in ink (you can do a pencil under-drawing if you want).
  2. Post it on tumblr (or Instagram, twitter, facebook, flickr, Pinterest or just pin it on your wall.)
  3. Hashtag it with #inktober
  4. Repeat (you can do it daily, like me, or go the half-marathon route and post every other day, or just do the 5K and post once a week. What ever you decide, just be consistent with it. INKtober is about growing and improving and forming positive habits, so the more you're consistent the better.)

Keep an eye on my Inktober folder for more updates: artofdawn.deviantart.com/galle…

This year is Long Beach Comic & Horror Con's 5th year anniversary and my 5th year being an artist alley artist. This year Infected By Art is putting together a souvenir book that will be available to purchase at LBCC 2013. I have submitted my artwork for the book and they will determine if it will be in the book through a jury/public vote. So help me get into the art book by voting on my artwork. First place wins cash prizes, I don't expect to get that but hope to at least get into the book.

Help out Dawn and vote for her art here:

Getting Ready for SDCC Art Show

San Diego Comic Con is just around the corner and once again I will be displaying and selling my artwork in their Art Show that is located in the Sails Pavilion upstairs at the Convention Center.

I reserved two panels and let you know the display numbers after I set up. So keep an eye out for updates here on my site's blog, Twitter, Tumblr, or Facebook page.

I'm still currently working on the artwork I'll be bringing to this year's art show, like Blazing Suns, The Model, The Whispers, Queen of Lightening, etc.

I also plan to blog about SDCC this year like I have in the past. But this time I'll do it on the Art of Dawn website. So keep an eye out for that if you are interested.

And if you want random entertainment from me, keep an eye out for updates on my Drunk Logs: drunklogs.wordpress.com

Days Go Bye

I'm just surprised how fast the months go by when your busy. My goal to draw more hasn't been too successful but I have gotten a few things accomplished. Got a few commissions out of the way and now I'm working to draw some art for the San Diego Comic Con art show. I'm planning to sell some sketch cards as well as my usual original artwork. I'll also be adding prints to the walls since I don't have a table this year.

If you see me wandering around SDCC, feel free to say hi. I hope to cosplay this year as Boot Angel again, but it all depends on if I can drop some weight before then. Otherwise I can always cosplay as Pam Poovey from Archer. :P

I'll also accept suggestions for things I should draw on sketch cards or artwork at the SDCC  art show. I have ideas, but I also love taking inspiration from your guy's suggestions. Suggestions from others have helped me create stuff like "Stop clubbing, baby seals"

Late April Update

Journal Entry: Thu Apr 25, 2013, 11:21 AM
My Links!

April has been a busy, but creative month. Besides drawing Zombie Ranch I haven't been doing much completed artwork due to some big commission jobs I got. Though once in a while I sneak away and draw something for myself.

I'm not the type to really do resolutions, but this year I gave myself some goals that I hope to accomplish. They were:
  • Work on Saturnine and have an issue done this year
  • Create more Bits of Nothing
  • Make some products with my art or Zombie Ranch characters to sell at the booth
  • Accept more commissions
  • Lose Weight

Now I'm the type of person who is an idea person and these ideas distract me, causing me to stop working on said goals. Like just this week I was listening to Holy Diver by Dio and thought "This would make a really weird comic". Luckily this concept fits in the area of "Create more Bits of Nothing" and I've started working on it.

Though, out of all my goals, losing weight is possibly one of the hardest ones. My day job is working in an office (web designer) and it's really hard to be mobile while trying to draw. So in order to lose weight, I have to cut back on how much I draw. Oye.

I might not reach all my goals, but I'm the type that feels accomplishment for even trying.

Comic Conventions

March will begin the convention tour that I'll be doing for 2013. First I"ll be going up to Seattle, WA for Emerald City Comic Con and ending with Long Beach Comic Con in California.

After this year, I probably won't be able to tour around so much. I plan to always go to LBCC  and SDCC. I'm hoping it will be temporary (maybe a few years), but the travel expenses have been eating away at our savings. So we will be taking time away to replenish funds. So if you are going to the conventions in Seattle or Phoenix, I highly advise you to come say hi or have me sign anything since I won't be coming back for a while.

This could change if funds improve. Any money I make at these conventions go towards hopefully attending the next year as an artist in artist alley.

But even if I don't make it back, I plan to do what I always do at conventions: draw, have fun and chat with lots of nerds. :D

Hope everyone had a fun celebrating the new year. I celebrated mine in my typical way, having a beer and counting down to midnight with friends and family. My birthday is coming up this month and after that, things should go back to normal. And by that I mean me preparing for conventions and drawing the Zombie Ranch comic. I have to admit that I do love my life right now. :D

Request for Zombie Ranch Artwork

Journal Entry: Sun Nov 25, 2012, 10:58 PM
My Links!

We (drfeh and I) had some fan artwork drawn for the comic book that I draw Zombie Ranch and I loved seeing work done by others. So I'm asking if any of you guys would like to volunteer to draw something for Zombie Ranch?

You might be asking "Why are you asking for fan art?". Well for several reasons, I like to have a day off from drawing and my birthday is coming up in a couple of months. I will be hitting the big 30 and put together  theme that will allow anyone to help me celebrate. That theme is "imagination" because I love seeing creative works from friends, family, fans, etc. So me asking for fan art is sort of like asking for a birthday gift. If you're curious on when my birthday is, it's in January.

If you're interested in participating, feel free to go to the following www.zombieranchcomic.com/submi… to fill out the form. Be sure to give your name (however you want us to author the artwork) and a link so that we can send people that visit the website to your artwork. Below are the rules for submitting artwork.

October, gotta love it

Journal Entry: Wed Oct 17, 2012, 9:27 AM
My Links!

October isn't one of my favorite months because I love the cold weather and (in California) the weather tends to still be warm. It's going to get up to 97 degrees today and that's just not right!

But I love October for several reasons. It gets colder around the end of October (finally), I love to dress up in a costume and go to work, and I love decorating the house for Halloween. This year, I don't have to go to Long Beach Comic Con and get to wander around Halloween weekend. Don't get me wrong, I loved being at LBCC for Halloween, but it was always hard being invited to friend's parties and not being able to go.

And because of Halloween, I always feel like drawing up monsters or creepy art. So hopefully I'll have some creepy, monsters themed, or dark artwork to share.

January 1st is the new year. July 1st tends to be the new fiscal year for a lot of work places. I dub the day after San Diego Comic Con the New Comic Year for me. It's the biggest event that I have to plan for and after it I always start to think of preparing for the conventions I want to attend for next year.

Next up is Comikaze that is located in Los Angeles. If you're going there, be sure to stop by my booth and say "Hi". I hope to have a lot of new prints available for you guys, including a new Zombie Ranch art print!

San Diego Comic Con 2012

Journal Entry: Fri Jul 6, 2012, 12:02 AM
My Links!

San Diego Comic Con is next week and this year I won't be hosting a table in the Small Press area, but I'll still have my artwork in the Art Show. I'm a little sad because it was awesome last year to be able to meet all you guys, but get to sleep in, wander around the floor and hang out with friends late at night.

This year I might actually cosplay. I don't have many characters that I can dress up as since I'm short and a little chunky (I'm build like a female Dwarf to tell the truth). But luckily this year is the 30 year anniversary of Love & Rockets and I have the perfect body frame to dress up as Boot Angel from one of their more recent comics. And I figure that this will be the year that I can dress up as her and have people recognize who I'm dressed up as.

But first, I need to exercise so that I can get my arms/legs muscular again. Stupid crutches made my muscles flabby after I sprained my ankle really badly a while back ago (couldn't walk on it for months).

A new year and new conventions

Journal Entry: Thu Jan 5, 2012, 6:10 PM

It's 2012 and the days are already flying by too quickly.

There is a lot of drawing in for this year and I aim to redo my website. It's been a while since I've redecorated my site and it's due time that I add things like a store to my website. Plus I've learned some new things in the area of web design that I've been itching to try out.

But I will still be drawing Zombie Ranch and will still be slowly working on Saturnine. I had hoped to have it done for last year, but I've come to realize that I don't want to rush Saturnine and want to take my time with it a little bit. I also want to try out some new ideas towards making a web comic, so I've been talking with drfeh on how we could incorporate those ideas into the story.

Wish everyone luck on the new year and hope to see some of you guys at some of my conventions.
